I'm jealous. My Tia Nina is from PR, and she says it's a beautiful place with beautiful people. Just a warning: the Spanish spoken in PR is much different from what you may have learned in school or from friends! It's a dialect that resembles Castillian (the "real" Spanish spoken in Mexico and most of Spain), much as American resembles English.

Oh believe me, I know. I am Hispanic and my father speaks Spanish but I never have learned it so...I'm going to be so confused. ;-; I don't like the Spanish language in any form so I'm going to be quite put out since all my family down there speaks little to no English. But I'll manage. Somehow.

Hmm well . . . I love Spanish, I think it is a beautiful and musical language (plus it's easy to learn because it's all phonetic), so we'll agree to disagree on this one if you're okay with that.

Actually, I don't know about the Puerto Rican dialect, but in Castillian there are a LOT of cognates - words that sound like their English counterparts - so you should be able to "manage," as you say. Just don't tell anyone "estoy embarazada," because that doesn't mean you're embarrassed - it means you're pregnant!
